A Clinton thread at Harvard

By Marcella Bombardieri and Anand Vaishnav, Globe Staff, 4/25/2004

Is Harvard becoming the retirement plan of choice for former Clinton administration officials? Last week, political economist David T. Ellwood, who helped shape President Clinton's welfare reform policy as an assistant secretary in the department of health and human services, ascended to the deanship of the Kennedy School of Government. His boss, Harvard president Lawrence H. Summers, was Clinton's Treasury secretary. And when Summers tapped a new law school head last year, he picked Elena Kagan, a former assistant to Clinton on domestic policy. Coincidence? Yes, says Summers spokeswoman Lucie McNeil, of Ellwood's hire: "The best person got the job."
