People ask "What is your relationship to Harvard." This is
an important question, as Harvard is most particular with its
associations. We are associated with Harvard as a non-affiliate Harvard
website, the only one of its kind. This is because we have worked in close
association with the Harvard Trademark Program since our beginning, but
the work we do requires independence.
As a Harvard graduate, from a family of graduates stretching back to the early 18th century, I am probably as concerned about Harvard as Harvard is. Other non-affiliates with longer histories include the Harvard Crimson, the Harvard Lampoon, the Harvard Cooperative Society, the Hasty Pudding Club, and the Harvard Clubs of Boston and New York. None of these are owned by Harvard, but they owe their existence to Harvard as we do. As a result, our relations are of the most cordial nature, as evidenced by the official correspondence posted on our site. We are completely independent, but bound to Harvard by taste, tradition, and of course, trade. We promote Harvard-licensed items, and we promote Harvard; we advertise in Harvard media, and every time we make money, so does Harvard. We both like that.
